My tilt/trim worked fine, but then suddenly it would not work at all--just a click from the relay when trying to raise orlower the engine. I tapped on the motor with the switch engaged, and it started to work again. I'm guessing that the brushes in the motor are starting to go. Is this an easy motor to remove and repair?

Re: Yamaha tilt/trim

Currently having the same problem being fixed. And it was the brushes . I have a good mechanic in Canada that I have work on my 90hp - and he's charging me around $200-300 Canadian.

Re: Yamaha tilt/trim

Hello
I had a similar problem on my 1998 225 Yamaha. Water had entered the motor, I don't know if there was a leak where the wire enters the top of the motor or maybe I messed up the grommet seal when presure washing at the end of the season, it had corroded 1/2 the bottom flange inside. It cost me 300 dollars to fix 3 yrs ago and has been working fine ever since, but when I put it back toigether, I put s nice bead of silicone around the wire where it enters the top of the tilt motor.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND for everyone to do that even if you have not yet had a problem. Consider it good insurance.
Bruce
