Yamaha tilt/trim question

Hello everyone,
I have a 1999 (with only about 300 hours) SX150 HP, Salt Water Series II OX66 fuel injected and the tilt/trim works just fine BUT the gauge does not! Does anyone know where I should start looking to get it to work? When the motor is all the way down and I start moving forward and start trimming the motor up.....the gauge starts to move/jitter and then nothing happens. Until I brought this boat up to Missouri, it had been in salt water....if this makes any difference?
Any help would be great.

start with checking sending unit on motor to see if it is broken or working properly

Look under the motor, in the front under the steering tube. The sender is moved by a plastic collar. Those like to break.

Thanks for the reply. Can you be a little more clear about where this sender is located? As in, is the 'steering tube' in front of the engine, or part of the engine that makes it turn left and right?
Thanks again,
Patrick

Re: Yamaha tilt/trim question

Hello again,
Wanted to let anyone that is interested know that the problem was the "Trim Sender". It was a plastic unit that was broken and would not stay tight on the tube........I got a "Trim Sender Kit" from the Yamaha Dealer; this one made of metal. Clamped it on the tube so extending part pushed the trim lever arm...........and now the gauge works.
Thanks for all the advice,
Patrick
