yamaha T9.9MXHR shift rod replace

I replaced powerhead and found the shifting rod laying on the table. Do I need to remove the powerhead again to get that rod hooked back on up there inside the upper case or can I somehow get it rehooked from below?<br />thank you

I pulled the powerhead and attatched the rod like I figured I had to do.<br />thanks
