Yamaha T50 Shifting Problem

I have dual 1997 T50 4 strokes with 703 control boxes.
Shifting into forward is immediately out of neutral, yet with reverse the control lever is about 15 degrees off of neutral before reverse engages.
I checked the lever on the engine and it lines up with the marks on the guide.
Is there an adjustment in the control boxes, or is there a problem with the lower unit?
Both engines/controls exhibit this problem.
Thanks

Re: Yamaha T50 Shifting Problem

if the marks on the shift slide brackets line up when the control box detent is in netural and the cable throw is about equal for fwd and reverse I am not seeing a problem. is there a shift problem< or has it done this since you owned it. as long as reverse engages before the throttle cable moves and the lower unit drain magnet is clean I dont see a problem. no shift adjustments are in the box.
