I have a 2001 electric start manual shift 15hp.4 cycle. When putting motor into forward the boat moved forward for a short distance then stalled. I cannot shift to netrual. I lifted motor and can turn motor over with the prop. so motor is not seized. Any suggestions as to a fix??

Re: Yamaha stuck in gear

Just happened to me yesterday on my 1991 115. Stuck in reverse. Shift lever assembly works (back & forth) fine but prop still stuck in gear. I suspect due to age of motor, my shift shaft must have rotted away.
I'm also waiting for some responses here. Good luck...I had a $410 towing bill.

remove the shifter cable and see if it will go into all gears

It's a long shot, but take a look inside the cowling where the shift rod comes up from the lower unit & check that a bolt or other cosmik debris isn't preventing your shift rod from moving either way.
It happened to me a while back when a bolt vibrated loose in my Zuki.

Here in Texas we tow our fellow boaters for free, at least to the nearest ramp.

( unless they are really drunk or stupid )

I might start charging to tow jet-ski-toes.
