Hello all. Let me apologize in advance if this has already been covered. I tried searching and didn't find what I was looking for. I am in the market for a new to me boat, and have found one that peaks my interest. There is a problem that is plaguing me. In another post I mentioned this boat and the fact that it has a yamaha drive on it. The initial response was run, don't walk, and I understand that as it appears as though parts are becoming hard to come by. My research shows that these are relatively durable drives when taken care of, and that if there is a problem that I can't find parts for, it can readily be swapped to a mericruiser drive. Is this the case? If so, what would a repair like this cost. Ultimately what I am trying to determine is if all things equal, will the outdrive make that big of a difference? Assuming I bought the same boat with two different drive configurations, both had catastrophic failure, and both needed the same repair, would it be cost prohibitive to have the yamaha as opposed to another boat with, say, a mericruiser already in place?

Thanks in advance!

Yes. And a huge plus with Mercruiser is the fact that parts are so readily available you can dang near get 'em at 7-Eleven. I would, however, take a Yamaha over a BMW drive....'nutcase

Ayuh,.... If you were stupid enough to buy that boat,+ it Blew Up...

You'd have to replace EVERYTHING with a Mercruiser...Motor, Drive, Transom assembley,...
ALL of it...

If you come to your Senses,+ buy a Mercruiser powered yacht,...
You'll only need to replace the Broken Parts....

Gotcha! Bringing me to my senses is the point of this thread. I'm not excited about the prospect of having to replace the motor, drive, and transom, so I will keep looking. Thanks much!!!
