Its not too bad of an idea. I have a yamaha stern drive and motor also. I love it. However, parts can sometimes be an issue. The motor is no problem because its a gm motor. mercruiser and volvo use the same motor. Its just dressed with the yamaha stuff. But generally, you just need to be creative.
Your trim pump hose is just a hydrolic hose going to a hydrolic cylinder. If you removed the hose, and took it to a mercury dealer, you may find something that works. Or take it to a shop the deals in hydrolics, and you'll have no problem getting one.
