I just got a new shift cable for my stern drive.
I have a 5.0 motor. Is there any tricks I can do to make this replacement easier?

Steve

Re: Yamaha Stern drive shift cable

First, do you have the deep set socket needed to remove the rear nut? If not, you will have to buy or build one. The ends of the cable is easy to bend and jam. Be careful feeding it thru and don't damage it. Also don't forget to remove the O-ring from the old cable and put it on the new cable. Failure to do this will result in water leaking in the shift linkage area. That is the few things not covered in the book. BTY, you do have a book don't you!!!

Capt Ken,

Yes I do have a book and I have a deep well #17 with a hex end on it. I have a clymer book. Are the instructions and alignment guide good in it? Or is there more to it?
Steve

Nope, the instructions are pretty staightforward. Just count the turns of the retaining nut when removing it.
