Yamaha Starting Problem

One problem and one question. I have a new Yamaha 150 4 stroke. I haven't started it in about 3 weeks. I tried to start it this weekend and I got nothing. No sound, no clicks, no electronics worked either.

I read JB's "outboard won't start" faq and it said to measure the voltage at the terminal. How do I do that? The battery is only 3 or 4 months old. Could it die already? I am in coastal North Carolina. It has not been very cold yet.

Also, the wires coming off the battery had two fuse holders in them, a 25 and a 30. They are supposed to be in watertight cases, but both were filled with water. I dumped the water out and dried everything and cleaned the metal parts of the fuses. Still nothing.

I don't know if it is a battery problem or a wet fuse/connection problem. The fuses were not blown.

Any suggestions?

P.S. I don't know much about engines and know squat about the wiring, but I follow directions very well if anyone has help.

Re: Yamaha Starting Problem

To measure the voltage hook the postive lead of a voltmeter to the postive terminal and the ground lead to the negative. Before you try to trouble shoot an electrical prooblem, aalways hook up a charger and be sure the battery is fully charged.

do you have the yamaha digital speedo and tach ? if you do there is a voltmeter built in. do the tck and speedo turn on? thats why I wont rig a yamha motor without the proper ymaha guage pckage. they will aid in testing if you let them.
