Hello everyone, new to the site but not new to forums.
Im looking at possibly buying a new boat, with Yamaha power, but have some engine related questions.
The boat in question is a 2003 Robalo 235 walk around powered by a 2003 Yamaha F225TXR engine. The engine has 1,100 hours and is the original engine to the boat. I’ve been reading extensively on the boat and engine and have read quite a bit on corrosion problems Yamaha had on 2000-2005 F series outboards. And also the “fix” for it and how much work is involved with installing said kit.
Is the corrosion issue that big of a deal with these engines?

My Bro had a pair of Yammy F350's on a new-to-him boat . . . one of the exhaust manifolds corroded through and caused a hydrolock in the engine . . . bent a few connecting rods. $25K later the problem was fixed.

Not sure the issue extended to their smaller engines and the time-frame that you are looking. Maybe check for recalls and maintenance history to see if that engine would be suspect.

I'm thinking if my bro did his homework, he would have negotiated a proactive repair on the manifolds as part of the sale.

Thanks. I’m talking to the dealer about getting the issue further looked into and possibly doing a test drive for the boat.
