You're overpropped. You should be turning at least 5500. That's official. Between you and me, they'll run 6 grand all day long and love you for it. :)

yes
sometimes you will get as much as 300 per inch. as a two stroke turns up it makes more power. I would try a cupped 13 1/2 by 20 or so.

3-blades are generally faster. But 4-blades allow you to raise the motor on the transom to push less gearcase thru the water and you can make that up if not get a tad more speed. 4-blades also seem to reduce chinewalk substantially.

But I wouldn't think a 23 would be out of line for that setup. You might want to make sure you're running on all 6 cylinders. Check the sparkplugs. They should all burn about the same. If any deposits look radically different than the others, you may have a motor problem.

Re: yamaha prov 150

a run up on the test wheel or dyno can tell you if the motor is making correct power. reccomended before chasing prop sizes. I am nt familiar with a procraft so I have no idea of the hull configuration or weight.

Re: yamaha prov 150

plugs all look same... even discoloration. the weight of the boat is around 2500 lbs..good compression on all cyl. (around 130) good spark.
im gonna check to see if someone in our area has a dyno or a test wheel to check it. but as good as the motor starts and runs ( all the way thru the rpm range) im hoping the motor isnt sick. can it harm anything if it contiunes to run at 4900 opposed to 5500?

its extra load your engine doesnt need ed. in the short term it shouldnt harm much. in the long term your engine life will be reduced due to the extra load.
pulling skiers with that rpm could be harmful
