Yamaha Prop = Mercruiser Prop!?

I've noticed that several manufacturers have props specified for Yamaha stern drives, but the part numbers are the same as an alpha one in some cases. Can I really run a prop for a mercruiser on my Yamaha? That would definitely makes swaps & trades alot easier!

Yup, just a different hub I believe.

That's true only for props that use a replaceable hub system.

Props that use a pressed in hub are different numbers. Example: Michigan Match 19" pitch props are different numbers, as well as different diameters( 14 versus 14.5).

You can interchange them, might just need a different spacer washer that goes on before the prop, or grind it flat like the Mercury ones are... I have run the Merc props with great results on my Yamaha outboards.

Marv, I think that's what's happened here. The thrust washer behind the prop is about 3/8" thick and flat, not stepped like the ones I've seen for sale at Solas, PropTech, etc. That would explain why I've been able to slide an alpha prop on the shaft & tighten the nut & there aren't any contact points between the prop & drive housing. Thanks!
