Yamaha Pro 50 Cdi box bad?

I recently purchased this motor (1991 Yamaha Pro 50 model# P50tlrp) and realized it was having some firing issues. I took it to my mechanic and he said the power pack needs to be replaced. He then informed me that this particular CDI box is around $500. Before I do anything, I figured I would ask some advise from anyone on here that might be able to give a suggestion. Or anyone who might know where i can get parts for this motor. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

do a forum search, you can test the inputs to the cdi and the outputs to see if the cdi is bad or one of the inputs or the coils. But that should have been what the mechanics did
