I have a 1987 yamaha 115 the power head i believe is ok i was told that there is a bearing or bushing between the power head and lower unit that seizes to the shaft does any one know if this is true. I lubed the cyl. and turned the motor over many times because i thought there might be rust on the cyl. walls but i dont think that was the problem. NEED HELP!

Between your post's title "power head won't turn"<br /><br />And the reference too "and turned the motor over many times "<br /><br />I find the post a little bewildering.<br /><br />Yo say the powerhead (motor) part will not allow the crankshaft to rotate?<br /><br />Or perhaps the motor as a complete unit will not swivel from side to side as it does to turn the boat?<br /><br />Or perhaps yo have unbolted the engine part from the rest of the thing and it won't turn cartwheels or something???

Those are probably the pulses developed in the crankcase and cylinders when the piston moves up and down.<br /><br />If it is definately some bearing going bad it would normally be making a lot of noise while running, and need to be torn down and inspected.

On some Yamahas that have sat for a while. The drive shaft from the lower unit get tight in the housing befor it goes into the power head. You can't turn the engine. You need to pull the lower unit off and see if the power head is free. Some times you need to pull the power head and hone out the housing when its tight on the drive shaft.
