I have been doing some research in purchasing early 2000 ox66 200's to replace my aging/thirsty '95 175 Johnsons.
Looking for twin set-ups ultimately. I'm finding that the general consensus is that these are GREAT motors and the only time they seem to come up for sale is when one has "1 down cylinder".
I understand that these motors are EFI and the gas/oil is mixed prior to injection.........my question is, is there a trend in these motors having 1 cylinder go bad? If it was lack of lubrication I would expect all 6 to get damaged. If I was to purchase a pair w/ one motor having 1 down cylinder I assume it would be best to replace the power head........but would need to find out what caused the original failure.......hence my question re: the lubrication. Would the fuel delivery still be suspect? Do these motors have individual throttle bodies?
I don't mind turning a wrench. Just trying to get educated before I am forced into a purchase or a GREAT deal falls into my lap!
From what I understand these motors are bullet-proof and a bit less finicky than the HPDI's.......
