yamaha outdrive w 4.3 Good Bad?

Looking to purchase a 1990's kayot deck boat with 4.3 Yamaha I/O. I don't see to many of these outdrives around. Are they a good unit w parts still available or is it one to stay away from.A friend stated the Mercruiser would be a better choice.Any input on this.

The Yamaha drive can still be repaired and parts are available. There is a Yamagod here who can better answer about parts. The 4.3 is a gm engine as you know. Manifolds and risers for it can be had aftermarket I believe.
He'll be along shortly as soon as he changes from his thong to regular shorts. He doesn't like the web cam catching him in his thong.

It was Walts weekend to wear the thong anyway. If it's a freshwater boat then it will last forever. Parts are there and mostly still supplied by Yamaha and the others I have figured out how to adapt to aftermarket parts.
