hi to all, i am new so forgive my naivety.
i have a 1998 2 stroke 40 hp yamaha outboard engine ( model 66t ? ) and when you have finished with the boat for the day and want to put the engine back on tilt you have first to remove the locking pin that the engine fastens onto to keep engine in place when in drive.when this pin is removed another clip lets the engine be placed in tilt and holds securely, you then replace the locking pin back in the original place on the transom plate so that when you put the engine back into the drive position another clip locks over.
this whole procedure is repeated every time the boat is used and requires two people to do it.
other engines appear to have a lever to disconnect the locking clip prior to up or down tilt, ours has not and never seems to ever have or the space on any fixings.
some say the engine may have been used only for a fixed drive position?
others say this is not normal unless the engine was very old?
if it should have a lever to disconnect the tilt is it possable to fit one and is it expensive and or worth the trouble.
thank you for any help.
p.s also can i get a drawing of said engine free online to check?.
