I have a 2005 Yamaha 8 horse, fourstroke outboard that has a prop that will pulse or hesitate when in forward gear. The motor starts and runs great, but when I throw the gear shift in forward and throddle-up the prop will stop/spin, stop/spin, stop/spin. Its like the prop is slipping, then it catches. It does this intermitently. Im just wondering if the gear shift lever needs adjustment, because what its doing is momentarly going into neutral?

Probably a spun hub. The inner part of prop with the splines and the outer part with the blades are held together with a rubber cushion to help protect the lower end if you ever hit a rock or submerged object with the motor. When the rubber cushion wears out it begins to slip like a clutch on a car. Depending on size and overall condition of your prop you can have it rebuilt by a "prop shop" or buy a new one.
