I have a 150 Salt Water Series with carbs on my boat. I have no way to identify the year of the engine. The tag on the transom mount is scratched, rolled up and unreadable. It is not a Salt Water Series II. It says nothing further on the cowling. All I can find on the powerhead is torque numbers. Where do I look for a serial number? What years did they make Salt Water Series 150 engines? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Yamaha Outboard expert needed..Year??????

I'm far from an expert but I just bought a 2002 75hp Yamaha. The Model & Serial #'s are both on the transom bracket port side. On the transon bracket starboard is a plate with "manufactured 10/01". The serial # is also on the block just under the flywheel but not stamped in the metal, just a sticker. The year can be determined by the model # (see below), not the s/n.

I posted this info a few weeks ago for someone else. Hope it helps you.

"Yamaha Model Designation

Imbedded in the model number is the horsepower and year of the engine.
For example:
If your model number is 115TRR your engine is a 1993 115hp engine.

The first numbers are the engine hp.
The last letter corresponds to the year listed in the chart below.
1984(N) 1985(K) 1986(J) 1987(H) 1988(G) 1989(F)
1990(D) 1991(P) 1992(Q) 1993(R) 1994(S) 1995(T)
1996(U) 1997(V) 1998(W) 1999(X) 2000(Y) 2001(Z)
2002(A)

T = Power Tilt & trim Electric
X = OX66 (fuel injection trade mark)
R = Remote control

I picked up a little pamphlet at the Yammie dealer when I was shopping for a new motor and this is what they listed for 2002 specs. The sales rep. said the previous model years would be the same abbreviations. Hope this is accurate for you."

Hello Evil (what a name - no offense!)

Are you sure about your model #? Yamaha did not use "E" to designate a year. Check the model # on the transom bracket plate and let me know.
