Yamaha OB year? & Steering question

Plate on motor has: model 40etlf<br /> code 6H4 L<br /> serial 558371<br />Bought this motor used & don't know the year? Also the steering is frozen( it was working in May this year), probably due to salt water use and not being greased. Anybody know what I have to do to get the steering disconnected at the transome and freed or replaced?

I just had to free mine <br />what i did was undo the bolt securing to the engine then holding the outer sleave with mole grips placed a screwdriver in the bolthole and simply turned it back and forth a few times this freed it but it was still a little stiff so i dawbed it with copperease behind the rubber seal and worked the stearing until it felt better<br />if you need to remove look under the transom for the cable and you should see a big nut undo it then simply unscrew the outer sleave of the cable from the grommet in the transom grease and put back but watch you dont wreck the grommet as i did i ended up bodging with a jubilee clip either side of the gromet to hold the cable in place
