YAMAHA MULTFUNCTION GAUGE PROBLEM

Have a 94 Yamaha speedo multifunction gauge that is on the blink. Worked fine when I put the boat to bed for the winter. Now with power applied this spring, reads a constant 60 mph (I wish!). Only changes since fall is I took out the gauge to change out the instrument panel backing, but reconnected everything as before. Have tried cycling power and reconnecting all wires with no affect. Also disconnected the pitot tubing at the unit and blew some air in, again with no changes. Engine is a Yamaha 94 225 SWS. Has got me stumped. Any recommendations would be much appreciated!!

Re: YAMAHA MULTFUNCTION GAUGE PROBLEM

hello
you say you tried disconecting the tube at the speedo? do that then blow air at it not directly down the tube. keep the pressure below 10 psi.
sounds like something inside the unit is stuck.
good luck and keep posting

Re: YAMAHA MULTFUNCTION GAUGE PROBLEM

Took the tube off speedo, used air in a can, blew directly into speedo, still reading same. What's the next step? Standing by for more ideas on troubleshooting. Don't want to buy a guage unless absolutely necessary, they are pricey..thanks..

Re: YAMAHA MULTFUNCTION GAUGE PROBLEM

hello
sorry
no repairs that I know of in the field. you may try spraying wd-40 in the tube. sounds like ther pressure transducer is stuck. you may try a quick rap on a hard object.
good luck and keep posting

Re: YAMAHA MULTFUNCTION GAUGE PROBLEM

Rodbolt,
Thanks for the help..after blowing more air in guage, went from recording 68 MPH to 52 MPH..is this a good sign? Will try WD-40 and a hard rap..Can you tell me the mechanics of the guage? How does it transfer the pressure, whats between the pressure diaphram and digital readout? I guess if the next couple of troubleshooting tips don't work, I may find out myself from personal observation...Woolly..
