Hello All,
My Wife and I are getting ready to dive into the world of boating. We have always loved being out on the water, and we are looking at a boat that will be easy to trailer (Tow Vehicle Land Rover Discovery) with the intention of visiting someplace new quite often.
We have pretty much settled on the Yamaha LS2000 Jet Boat. Its 19'6" long with an 8' Beam and twin 135 HP Jet Drives. It will run about 55 mph on the top end, and looks like it is easy to maintain, and Yamaha seems to have a near bullet proof reputation for their Marine Engines.
Before taking the Plunge, I thought I'd solicit opinions of those out there that may have had experiences with these boats. Thanx...

Yamadog,

I'm not so sure about the reputation of the jet prop. systems.

I am currently "locking horns" with Yamaha over a knocking engine in a Waverunner. Three years old and less than fifty hours-adult driven.

It has been serviced ONLY by the dealer and at the correct intervals. The dealer did the the winterazations and spring get readies each year. The unit has only used Yamaha oil. The knock developed on the dealers lot when they were getting it ready this spring.

Yamahas reply-"T'S OUT OF WARRANTY" Well, DUH, I know that, I'm jut looking for a little, and I mean little, consideration.

Do you want to take the chance of multiplying your chances for greif times two?
For a boat like that, I would go Outboard or I/O, unless you ABSOLUTELY have to have a jet for shallow water reasons. Even at that, I would look into an automotive engine based jet drive.

Re: Yamaha LS2000 -- Opinons/Comments?

Hey DJ,

Thanx for the comments. Generally speaking, Yamaha Marine engines have a great record for dependability/durability. The LS2000 I've been out on is two years old and has over 250 hours on the motors. This gentleman and his wife have had no issues with their boat, use it constantly, and recommend it highly.

I will say however, that Yamaha does not seem to have great customer relations once a product leaves the Warrantee period. I've heard many horror stories, and worry about this as well. I pray for a trouble free boat (Which most Yamaha's seem to be), but the thought of Yamaha's customer relations does worry me. What's a person to do when they have found a product they love, but are not sure of the company's relations with their customers (assuming they feel confident it is a high quality product, which I do)... Good Luck in your endeavors with Yamaha...
