I have a yamaha stern drive that is shifting hard into neut and reverse. this is my first boat. I thought it was a shift cable so i pulled the outdrive off and realized that cable was working smoothly. The shifting fork is stiff. but when i removed the 6 bolts from the lower housing i can not get it apart. any suggestions?

I moved this over to the I/O section. Thinking more action here for you. Welcome board!!

Are we having fun yet? Well you forgot a bolt. There is 7 bolts. #7 is in hole above the prop. After you get it apart, gently remove the bronze fork and don't go hitting it with anything. It bends easy. After removal, clean out the bushing that the fork pivots in.
