Hello forum,
I've been searching for a couple of days for an aftermarket ignition switch replacement for my 200hp 2 stroke v6 yamaha etlf. It's a 1989.
The current switch which has broken plastic on the sealed back has 6 wires coming out (2 black, yellow, brown, red and white)
There are tons of switches in the $20 range or less.
From my research, I've concluded that black is ground (both I guess and they connect up inside the switch)
Yellow is ignition on
Red is battery positive
White is kill
Brown is starter

Based off that information, can someone possible help recommend an aftermarket switch. Specifics would of course be greatly greatly appreciated as opposed to a webpage with 15 switches.
Thank you so much. Love the site and the willingness to help other boaters.

For the record, I don't care if it's got choke included or not. Here is the OEM part: Yamaha Ignition Switch Assembly 703 82510 43 00 Control Box | eBay
I just don't want to spend $100

Welcome to iboats!:welcome:

It would be more straightforward to buy a switch with the push-to-choke function. It also must be for an outboard with magneto ignition.

Iboats also has the direct replacement cheaper than the one in your link: Yamaha 61B-82510-01-00 replacement parts - Sierra MP51030 - iboats

Thank you for the information on the ignition assembly. I guess I'm trying to find out I I can't buy just a different switch by itself. I do understand it needs to be magneto. Does anyone have experience replacing a oem ignition switch on a two stroke with an aftermarket switch? Shouldn't I just be able to get something that has the right poles in the back and be fine? (Oh, and I'm friscowallaces4 from above). Like iboats Part # 420382-1

Of course you can, but...I'm with NYBo. Anything you do is going to cost $30. For $75 you have the peace of mind of one less thing that's lurking in the back of your mind. Please don't take any offense at this, but if you have to ask what may or may not work for a switch, it's best to stick with a stock replacement. I'm rewiring right now, and let me tell you it's not cheap. I just blew through $40 in heat shrink and I've barely started. Good luck, and welcome to the forum.

JC, to your point, wiring does intimidate me and I'm certainly not offended. I appreciate the advice and guidance guys. I had just read so many blogs about people trying to replace an ignition switch and saw many aftermarket options.
I'll post a follow-up with what I end up doing and how many times I screw something up :)
Anyone else is of course welcome to comment.

Found this as well http://forums.iboats.com/yamaha-suz...ha-175-ignition-switch-help-plzzz-340833.html
think I'm going to go with the 420381 if after I take my measurements I feel it will fit.

If you decide to go with a generic switch, I recommend you use the wires from the old switch to connect to the new one rather than cutting off the connectors on the boat's wiring harness.

Thank you for not being offended :) Personally, I would use an ignition switch with brass "ring" terminals, (not spade terminals) with the correct sized stud (probably a 10-12 gauge with a #6 stud), adhesive heat shrink, dielectric grease on the screw terminals with original wiring as stated.

thanks again for the assistance. I am definitely going to end up heat shrinking everything that I can. Anything I can't heat shrink I'll coat with that pain on stuff to protect.
