Yamaha I/O not getting water

I have a Yamaha 4.3 I/O that burned up the impeller on the seawater pump. I replaced the pump impeller and when testing it, were not getting any water to the pump. I took the inlet hose off and backflushed the hose with the garden hose and some rubber came out at the lower H2O pick up. Water flows the wrong way from pump to lower pickup but will not flow back up to the pump. Any ideas? I guess I need to plan to take the outdrive off, to check the hose from the lower unit through the transome. Any Ideas? Capt. Help! RP <><

are you in the lake or on the hose? if on the hose go to the lake or trash can it. yammie can be a bummer with normal muffs.

Re: Yamaha I/O not getting water

Got to have a tight fit on the muffs with a Yamaha and the water has to have some pressure behind it. Also due to its age, the waterpump is probably getting worn and not sucking like it use to. After you remove the pump and replace the impeller, try sucking thru one of the pump outlets and see how tight it is. If you can suck air thru easily, it ain't gonna pump worth squat.
