Welcome aboard Rambo:

Pros and cons are simply this: how well it was cared for. That boat is nearly 20 years old. If it was well cared for and runs, then the original manufacturing "cons" are probably negligible against spending the money on a new boat that doesn't have them.

Condition is key with older boats. Make sure you read the boat buyers checklist sticky on this forum before you check it over the last time. It can also be helpful if you're unfamiliar with boats to bay a marine tech to look it over for you.

Skeeters were fine boats in their day, not necessarily a premium but they were popular enough. Yamaha builds a decent outboard. They're pretty popular saltwater outboards, so again ... nothing to be overly afraid of that way. Well cared for, there's no reason they can't go for a long time for you.

2.6L is a long lasting, great running Yamaha. Fresh fuel and filters, ringfree every tank, Yamalube or similar.
Try to always run ethanol free with a good stabilizer.

Skeeter was a pioneer in bass boats. I recall back in 1968, I had just arrived in the Dallas area was fishing lake Tawakoni, in a quiet cove.....rented boat...my 9.9 McCullough outboard, and in comes this funny looking, bulled shaped olive green thing with stick steering and 2 guys.

I never owned one but the pictures of, and references to, owners comments about, indicated to me that they were as technically advanced as any of the popular boats of the class.

On Yamaha, never had one of them and there are quite a few around here. Never heard a bad word about them and many times I thought about purchasing a V4 of theirs as a replacement for a boat I had at the time, over an OMC V4 as I wanted a loop charged engine which Yammie offered.
