I just finished cleaning the head and water jackets on my 1998 Yamaha 115. On the water jacket, it's stamped to torque at 0.8 KG and the head is stamped to torque at 3.0 KG. Looking at the manual, the water jacket says to torque at 8NM or 70 in-lb. and the manual says to torque the head at 30 NM or 22 ft-lb.

First of all, my torque wrench only has KG or Foot lbs. Can someone help me decipher this into KG and or ft-lbs? Preferably ft-lbs.

Thanks for your help

Yes, you need the correct wrenches. One that is in pound-inches. A wrench that is in pound-feet won't go low enough to be accurate.

The cylinder head is torqued in two passes. First to 11 pound-feet and then to 22 pound-feet.

The cylinder head cover is torqued in two passes. First to 2.9 pound-feet and then to 5.8 pound-feet.

But torque to the equivalent in pound-inches except for the second pass on the cylinder head bolts. With the threads oiled with motor oil.

Part of the problem is that you don't have the Yamaha service manual.
