Re: Yamaha GP1200 comments ???
The GP1200R or GP1200? The 1200R is a good machine overall, but it does have some issues that need addressed. First is the power valves. The design allows for the retaining pins to work loose, thus dropping the valve into the cylinder. There is aftermarket kits available for this fix, I believe around $20.00 and about 1 hour of your time. Second is you will need to seal the pump area. This will eliminate a lot of your cavitation that this torquey motor tends to develop. This too is an easy do it yourself fix that will take about an hour to do. You pull your intake grate, and your pump shoe off. Get a Pump plug kit (around $40.00) which will give you a bunch of rubber pieces that fit in the voids of the pump shoe, put it back together using silicone on all the edges. Not hard at all, and makes a world of difference! Third is it tends to want to porpoise, but most 2 seaters do. If you look at my post under PWC Durability, you will see the fix for that. I may be being to harsh here, as many people ride these skis stock and are happy with them. I have gotten into them quite hard, and expect a lot out of mine. I probobly have close to $3500.00 in aftermarket/performance parts in mine. But then I have a 3 seater that will GPS a top speed of 66 mph, and gets there very fast! If you have some time for researching, got to<br />
click hereand do a search on power valves, pump sealing, and porpoising. If it is the straight 1200, not the 1200R, it does not have the power valves.
