Does anyone have installation drawings for multifunction meters or can anyone tell me where the two wires from the gas tank sending unit hook up to on the multifunction gauges on a '92 Yamaha 130 engine.

I'm tired of running out of gas!

Thanks,
Mike

Ahoy, GEP.

Don't have an answer, but I am sure someone will be along soon to help you out.

I had forgotten that the guage wasn't hooked up.

Re: Yamaha gas gauge wiring help

Howdy JB,
Before my restoration I never got around to hooking up the gas gauge and after it I could never figure it out. Everything other wire had a place to go except the two wires from the gas tank.
P.S. The old Yamaha gave up the ghost last year, I tore it all down to the powerhead and figured it just wasn't cost effective to put it back together given it's history.
I just bought an identical '92 Yamaha 130 and got done rigging it last weekend and thought I better get this gas gauge problem figured out before I run out of gas again.
I also finally got to utilize that oil tank I traded you for the electric winch. So now I don't have to mix my gas anymore.
It also works REALLY well as the deck of my boat can attest to. It seems I didn't tighten down a fitting on it and it ran all over the inside of my console and across my deck. Doh!

Mike

Is it the fuel meter you are looking for.
They should connect to the white and black cables (you have two black cables (minus)) for the instrument.

Double check by connecting the white and black leader directly, you fuel meter should slowly drop to a flashing bar at the bottom. Disconnect the leader anf you are "filled up".

Good luck.

Jasell,
It's the multi-function meter.
I might have hooked up some of the wires wrong because I don't think I have any wires left on the meter to hook into.
I'll have to get to my boat to check it out.

thanks for the response.
Mike

Jasell,
Thanks for the info.
That's what it was. Got her hooked up now.
One thing though, when I hooked up the black and white directly my bar slowly went up to full flashing bars. When I unhooked them it slowly went down.
Thanks again.
Mike

Re: Yamaha gas gauge wiring help

Hi guys,
I still have a problem with my sending unit.
I have the wiring all hooked up and I put 15 gallons of gas in a completely empty 62 gallon gas tank. My meter didn't move off empty. When I pulled my sending unit out of the gas tank and manually pulled up on the float, my guage went up, but not all the way to full.
I was wondering if this has something to do with the ground going through the yamaha harness ground wires and not getting enough resistance or if it should be grounded directly to the ground of my fuse block?
Do sending units go bad? and if so how? What would be symptoms of a bad sending unit?

I also wonder if the rod on the float isn't too short to give an accurate reading?
I am going to check the resistance with an ohmmeter tomorrow but was hopeful somebody has some words of wisdom.

Mike (still tired of running out of gas)

Re: Yamaha gas gauge wiring help

I have had much better luck with the accuracy of gas gauges when I hooked a ground from the guage and one to the sending unit directly to the battery ground.
