Purchased new a 2003 Yamaha 80TLR with my 17' 6" Lund boat. Every year when I remove boat from winter storage here in Michigan it takes me, following the manual on how to start engine, 10 - 12 attempts to start engine. After every attempt I check bulb to be sure it is firm. This engine has the Prime start system for carbs. Have taken to dealer while still under warranty 3 times. They adjusted carbs. The next season no change. Once engine has been started, it starts immediately with just touch of key. Will do same if engine is used within 12 - 15 days. Longer than that period and back to 10 - 12 turns of key(when alarm starts after 5 seconds I stop trying to start engine and let it set a couple of minutes, then try again as outlined in manual). The above makes no difference if 40 degrees(as it is now) or 85 in the summer. Have tried advancing the control unit a small amount while in neutral, and have tried advancing control unit to full power than back to neutral before starting to push more gas into carbs. Neither of those actions made any difference in requiring the 10 - 12 attempts to start engine. This engine runs perfect after starting. No hesitation when advancing fuel control. Hesitate to pull carbs when engine runs so great. Change plugs every other year, and always check fuel filter. Run StaBil in gas.
Does anyone have suggestion that works for your engine with Prime start when first starting engine after removal from storage or after it has set for 2 weeks plus?
Thanks for your help.
