I have a Yamaha F6 hp 4 stroke outboard. It being 7 years old now, I decided to replace the impeller. I have the manual and followed the directions carefully, and installed a new impeller and fiber gasket on the water pump base, re assembled and test ran in a tank. All seems fine (good flow of cool water out of pee hole), but I note there is a bit of water coming out around the rubber gasket where the lower steerable motor unit joins the stationary mount. Also, some water dribbles out of the hole where the shifter shaft exits the lower section and extends upward to the shifting mechanism. Whenever I’ve tank tested my motor in the past, I’ve never actually taken notice of whether water normally exits at these points. Is this normal? Is that chamber where the drive shaft and shifter shaft and cooling tube extend upward normally wet? Thanks for any input.
