I bought a used 1998 Yamaha F50TLRW outboard in 1999. Guy I bought it from says he had no problems, but I have had to have the carberators cleaned out every 6 - 8 months since I've had it. I use a fuel stabilizer in the gas and run it about twice a month. I am disgusted and ready to trade it in unless somebody can tell me how to keep it running. Mechanics say all I can do is use the fuel stabilizer and run it regularly. Beginning to think this is not the engine for me.

Re: Yamaha F50TLRW Carberators

sheila the f50 is a 4 stroke isnot it ? does the boat have a built in tank or are you using an external tank. sounds like a real dirty fuel tank. if you are using a built in tank, replace your fuel filter with one that has a clear plastic bottom on the bowel and a quick drain fitting on the bottom. check for water after each use and drain it off. check the gasket on the fuel cap and position of the fuel vent. water has a way of sneaking in during evening thunderstormes.
