I just bought a new F40 and was wondering if there is anything in particular I should be aware of with this motor. It's a carbed motor so I've installed a fuel/water separator just to be safe. Is this a solid motor?

very solid dcb. ive seen camp motors with 1500 plus hours before replacement. the important thing is good clean gas.

BenC. When you say good, clean gas; do you mean put a fuel water separator on the transom and use an inline fuel filter on the hose?

Re: Yamaha F40 2004

I got a new 2004 F40 at the end of last season. I am very pleased with it.

I posted a question here before I bought it as I was considering a Suzuki 40 also. I got good feedback on the Yam. The Suzuki had EFI but strangely no built in flusher, was approx 20 Kilo's heavier and much cheaper. Lack of a flusher was the clincher as I keep my boat on a salt water berth.

I noticed recently that Yam have now put EFI on the F50. It's only a matter of time to the 40 gets it as well I think.

I do not use a fuel water separator. Is this a big deal?

Hopefully the 1500 hour motors mentioned above were salt water also. I managed about 15 hours last year. Glad to hear I have a hundred more years to look forward to :)

Cheers

Andy
