Well, I did what I promised myself I would never ever do. I let my motor sit for 2 months without being run. The fuel did have fuel stabilizer in it, but it was old, yellow and thick looking.

When I tried to start it, it will not idle and runs rough throughout the RPM ranges. I've read that this particular motor has a lot of carb problems with jets getting clogged. I plan to remove the carbs, clean thoroughly, replace, take to the dealer to have them sync the carbs and hope for the best.

Question -

I read somewhere that your not suppose to use carb cleaner on these carbs because it will remove a clear protective coating over the aluminum. The only way to clean them is with an ultrasonic machine. Is this true? Or can I use aerosol carb cleaner?

Has anyone else had problems with these carbs? Any tips you could give me? I'm going to install a racor and always add marine ethanol sta-bil from now on.

Thanks!

aerosol cleaner will work fine.
best is to soak/saturate everything with yamaha combustion chamber cleaner the follow with the aerosol.
its one of the toughest outboard carbs to clean.
be carefull, pay attention and it works.
