My motor with 300 hours makes what I would call a momentary growling sound when lowered to the almost vertical position. I don't see or feel any corrosion or problems on the operating shafts and there's no hesitation. The fluid is full and clean. What could this be?

what you hear is normal.put a little grease on the tip of the plungers that lift the motor ,the noise will go away

agree with Joe. Mine does this also. It is metal on metal at the trim rods grinding. I add grease to mine periodically.
Does anyone know of a more sturdy grease for this? I use regular marine grease, but it doesn't last long.
