First off, I am sorry if this winds up being a duplicate thread, I did search some before I posted but was unable to find any (fast) answers to my questions and time is not on my side here. I found a boat, looked at it last night and am going back today to do compression tests on the 2003 Yamaha V115 4 stroke outboard. Engine ran great yesterday but now we want to check compression to make sure and then it is decision time, as this guy is holding others off until we decide on the boat, we called first and that means something to him. Here is my question, what is wrong with the gauges/wiring harness? This is a 2002 Hurricane FD 226R and none of the gauges work other than the fuel gauge. He had the tach replaced, but the new one doesn't work either. All of the original gauges do look cloudy, maybe like there was moisture in them at one time or it could have been from sun damage because I know all interior was replaced??? I have heard these boats are almost impossible to completely submerge due to the composite components so I doubt the console has been underwater. I do know this boat when through a hurricane with the original owner but not sure about damage. The current owner has the boat priced well, it runs out very good, but I am wondering what I might be getting into. Some have said there is just one master wiring harness we could R&R, some of my reading makes it sound like there are several wiring harnesses that run from the engine to the console for each gauge. I'm doing research all morning so I can hopefully come up with an estimate on the parts I would need to swap gauges/wiring to make all gauges work properly. I am looking for anybody online that has experience with these issues that could help me out with some knowledge and make this decision easier. Thanks so much for the assistance, glad I found this forum. Looks to be be a great source of knowledge. Take care and be safe!

Re: Yamaha F115 Wiring Harness

was this boat rigged with the yamaha brand 6y5 digital tach and digital speedometer?
the tach send, power and ground come from the 10 pin main harness and the ign switch.
the trim and visual indicates need a seperate harness between the engine and the console.
compression test is rather worthless, would much rather see the leakdown test done.

No, there are not digital readouts, and other than that, I can't answer the question about the original wiring system. I didn't see any labeling on the gauges either to know what brand they are or if they were Yamaha or not. Compression test did come back good, all four cylinders were between 150-160lbs. Did not do the leak down test.
