Yamaha F115 Jetdrive - noisy?

Hi,<br /><br />I'm trying to find out if an outboard Jetdrive like Yamaha F115 4-stroke would be any good. One thing I'm unable to find out is how many dB (decibel) this Yamaha F115 Jetdrive outboard "produce" at various rpm. <br /><br />I have visited Yamaha homepage but have not found any info about this subject. I suspect it is somewhat "noisy" since the water+exhaust outlet is above the water(like all outboard Jetdrives) when the boat plane.<br /><br />I have not found any reviews of the Yamaha F115 Jetdrive either.<br /><br />Maybe someone on this forum knows how noisy this outboard Jetdrive is?<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Bo

I may be incorrect but, in my experience with Inboards I've found that the introduction of water into the exhaust stream creates an effect similar to the effect of a muffler...<br /><br /> I would think the jet pump would be at least as quiet if not quieter than the standard prop/lowerunit....

Hi Bo. I own a F115, but not in a Jet model. However, I've been around many F115 Jets on the water. The new 4-stroke jets are nowhere near as loud as the traditional 2-stroke jets we all know. I found the F115 Jet to be amazingly quiet (for a jet).<br /><br />As you already mentioned the Jetdrives are going to be a little noisier. That's the trade-off for the specific purpose they provide. But apparently the Yamaha F115 uses a unique 3-stage labyrinth exhaust chamber to reduce engine noise with the jet. They claim it is the quietest in comparison to the competition.<br /><br />You'll probably have to contact the factory to get specific decibel ratings at different rpm.<br /><br />I think Yamaha's F115 is the largest outboard you can get with both a tiller and a jet. <br /><br /> http://www.escapetotheoutdoors.com/2002_yamaha/yamaha_f-jets/Four-Stroke_Jetdrives.txt

Hi, Forktail and snapperbait!<br /><br />Thanks for Your answers.<br />I probably need to contact Yamaha in my country to find out how noisy the Yamaha F115 Jetdrive is<br />in "cruise" and full speed. But it sems it is rather guiet so maybe not so much to worry about.<br /><br />I wish I had some review to read about the Yamaha F115 Jetdrive so I hopefully could see more in detail about this outboard pros and cons (not just Jetdrives pros/cons in general).<br /><br />There is probably the problem that Yamaha in my country do not sell Jetdrives..., at least they do not have any info on their homepage on Jetdrives.
