Would like to continue discussion of the problem I have with my F100 periodically smoking on startup. Had it to the dealers and all pressures etc check out. Anyone else care to add to this thread.

Re: Yamaha F100 smoking

I test rode in a boat last week powered by an F100 tiller. It belonged to the owner of the shop and I noticed at one point, near idle, it belched a short puff of smoke. I can't specifically remember if this was at startup, right after, or what. Clearly, this was not a motor smoking becuase of being worn. Interesting. gt

Re: Yamaha F100 smoking

It is a 4 stroke 100 HP. It only has 80 hours on it but has done it since day one. I'm living with it hoping whatever it is will break in eventually. Love the motor otherwise. Starts well runs like a clock, quiet, 5.5 mpg on a Lund Tyee 5.3 at 4500 rpm average. Just wondering if Yamaha has a bulletin or anything on this. I'd hate to have it worked on being so new and all.

Re: Yamaha F100 smoking

After some experimenting I discovered if I stop the engine in a slightly tilted position I have no more smoke problems. It would appear that the oil collects in the cylinder when the motor is in fully retracted position. When in the tilted position this oil can run out of the cylinders is my theory. Any comments?
