i have an 03 f225 on a bay boat and when i'm running more than 1/2 throttle i can't hear eng alarm if it goes off.i would like to add a visual indicator to work in conjuction with audible alarm. what i have in mind is a license plate bolt strobe light (from auto zone) it is small, compact, and water tight. i want to mount it on top of my console. will this work ?? how do you make the alarm go off to test ?? any input would be helpful almost blew eng when oil filter blew off eng. if i was going any faster i wouldn't have heard the alarm and i would own a pile of scrap aluminum

Who installed the oil filter? Was it a factory filter? You could be putting you warranty on the line.

Hi,<br />Do You have Yamaha orginal LCD gauages?<br /><br />If yes, there are warning lights in the Tachometer that light up for:<br /><br />- low oil pressure but I do not know if it would indicate if an oilfilter came off as in Yor case. <br /><br />- "engine trouble" but I'm not sure what it indicates for but it might be to late anyway in a case like yours.<br /><br />- overheat but maybe the indicator would not go on in a case like yours? But since with less oil the engine will not be cooled as good since oil carry heat away also (althoug the overheat alarm in most case has to do with bad water cooling) it could perhaps indicate in Your case.<br /><br />I do not know if any diffrent warning systems on a F225 compared to a F115 (that I have). But on my outboard the above 3 warning indicators are combined with the Buzzer sound.<br /><br />Do You have on Your F225 a buzzer sound specifically for oilfilter loose but no visual indicator for it?

Yes it does. With the new multi function gauge. There is a dip switch in the back of them for fourstrokes. If the engine loses oil pressure the engine will go in RPM reduction.

I would only use a factory oil filter and factory oil and keep track of the paper work. If there is a warranty issue related to oil. You maybe denied warranty. You need to invest in factory gauges and find a new Yamaha dealer. I wouldnt run that fourstroke without the multi-function gauge. F-225 arent cheap.

the oil was yam 4m and the filter was in a yam box with correct p/n. someone at dealer switched filters( didn't do me much good) the dealer replaced filter & oil and apoligized.hooked it up to the computer and ran it to check for problems didn't find any.

puddle, did the filter come off in one piece like it unscrewed itself, or blow off in pieces, or split the cover or something? that story is giving me bad dreams.

I think the filter came loose wrong thread. Some filters will gone on but as soon as you tighten then they feel like it pulls the threads.

boat, the filter threads stripped. afterwords i checked the FRAM site and found the filter was for a yam, just not for a outboard. how it got in the correct box is still a mystery to the dealer. i wrote down the p/n and was going to buy more at walmart 7.00$ vs 20.00$ from the dealer. after all yam doesn't make the filters.

Check the oil pressure specs for your motor, they run a lot higher than most cars do and need a filter with strength to withstand those stresses and possible pressure spikes. Be careful when substituting if the replacement does not say it is approved for your outboard.
