yamaha dt 15hp nil spark

Hi how do i find why I have no spark? ran the boat for an 1hr no issues, return to shore chilled for 3hrs and then went to restart the beast.. did the normal thing.. checked fuel and then moved onto elec.. notice that both plugs have no spark.. where do I start this diagnosis to find where my prob is?

Ok, let's just cover this first....how did you test for spark? Where did you ground the plug for the test?

unscrewed the plug and rested them against the head plate... am now thinking my be not the perfect earth???

unsure what that is, but tried getn a better earth and still no spark. so how can I find diagnose what part is faulty. I have removed the CDI unti with Spark leads.. any ideas how I can test...

also, I have removed the cdignition unit... any ideas how i can test this for operation / faulty?

any advise would be gold

what year is this
put everything back together, u r doing it way wrong
you only remove things that test bad

do you have a remote start?

grab a spark tester from an auto store

Ok, so I'll retest the spark plugs tonite.. but this will be the 3rd time that I have tested for spark - I hvae no sign of life/of any ignition. I will re fit CDI etc, can you help me with the next step in diagnosing where the problem is asumming that I have no spark still... thanks

Sorry its a Yamaha DT 15hp I think 91 or 96.. cannot recall. No remotes. all manual / tiller.

well you need a good volt meter and a dva to test things
but you can test the coils and for insulation break down

tHAT i HAVE A volt meter...I tried following a test process 2nite, where I poked the red cable from V meter into HT lead cap and earthed the blk cable on the motor. tested for Ohms, nil response.. I am asumming I should have got a reading of above .300 - 15 yes?

I have the tools to right down to Removing the fly wheel. But if any1 can provide me directions as to how I eliminate / test each component of the ignition system.. be rapt.
