I have a Yamaha 4.3 with the denso distributor. I need to know what direction the pickup needs to be pointed since it does not have a rotor cap. I do not know where the pickup should point to make the firing order correct

You don't have a distributor, you have a cam position sensor. There is a procedure to follow to set it up but I do not have it with me tonight.
