Hi guys!!
Well I have a few issues with my 89 model 225 excel that my yamaha dealer can not seem to fix!!
Problem No 1 -
When cold, the engine does not start as easily as it used to.The idle speed is also a little lower.
When taking off it will run rough until around 2500rpm is reached and then it will run fine at higher revs. When slowing back down it will sometimes run perfectly but mostly run rough again.
This has been a problem that has got progressively worse over time!
The carbies have been cleaned by a Yamaha dealer.
The spark plugs have been replaced.
Fuel filters also replaced.
I am thinking about replacing the coils and leads but would rather not as this is costly and I am not sure that this will be the problem.
Problem No 2 -
When running up to and at 4200rpm, the engine runs perfectly.
Over this it will drop around 500 revs after a bit. Sometimes after 10 seconds and sometimes after 2 minutes. For example, if doing 5000rpm, after about 20 seconds it will drop back to about 4500rpm all by it self. It still sounds good and runs well but should be at 5000rpm. After about 5 mins it will suddenly jump back up to 5000rpm, like flicking a switch! It will then stay at 5000rpm for 20 seconds and then drop back again.
This problem happens only between 4200 and wot- 5600rpm.
Pumping the fuel bulb does not fix this problem.
All fuel lines to the motor have been replaced.
Fuel filters have been changed.
Carbies cleaned.
Spark plugs changed.
Fuel tank is new.
I bought a new fuel pump and replaced the bottom pump 1st. Made no difference so I assumed that the pump was ok. I then replaced the top pump with the old bottom pump. Still made no difference, so I assume this is not a fuel pump issue.
This is also not an overheating issue.
This issue has been going on for years and I believe it to be a separate issue to the other.
I use yamaha oil and unleaded fuel 91 octane with no ethanol. I have also used premium fuel and it makes no difference.
Any help would be much appreciated!!
