Hello,
I have a 2001 F50TRLZ yamaha and the choke does not work. Part number of engine is 62Y L 422***. I need to know how to test the parts on the carburetors, these are two solenoid looking devices. Also I need to know how to test the wiring harness. The switch on the key has tested good with a continuity meter. Is there a control module somewhere on the motor for the choke?

Or does anyone know where I could get manual for these newer motors?

Re: Yamaha Choke Problem

If I remember correctly the yamaha 4s do not have manual choke but there is a trick to starting them you. first prime the primer bulb hard then pump the fast idel lever 3 times prime the primer bulb and start leave the fast idle leaver alone and let it idel and dead slow if it stalls prime it again pump 3 times then start it will go it you touch the fast idel leaver while it is warming they will usuly stall.!!
Good luck

Re: Yamaha Choke Problem

The two solenoids you mention is the prime start solenoids. They are located on #1 and #3 carbs. These are automatic systems and the choke switch on the dash does nothing. To start the system, you leave everything at idle and turn the key. If you advance the throttle any, you disengage the system. With the engine cold, you can disconnect the to wires going to each solenoid and connect a meter. When you turn the key, you should get voltage.
