I have a 1997 Yamaha c40. Trim / tilt, unit has one cylinder. New trim tilt motor. Unit tilts fine under idle speed but under power it will not trim up. If trimed up it will hold. trims down under power but makes squelching noise. Also, it appears to be filled with fluid, and I cycled up and down trying to get out any air, then added a little more. What else could it be.

Re: Yamaha C40 Tilt but no Trim

Post you model #

Not all motors are power tilt and trim
If it is a C40T then it is power tilt and trim
if C40P then it is just power tilt no trim

This is why you should always post model # of motor in question

Re: Yamaha C40 Tilt but no Trim

Yea, my C40TLRX is nice. It is good to be able to trim on the fly on any boat small or large.
I do not know why they even make that model.
Maybe once up on plane you could back off the throttle to remove the pressure on the motor and be able to trim it a little at a time to find the spot you need to be for running with the load you have at that time.
It is a best to let it all the way down to help get the boat up on plane before adjusting for running, but I guess it is better that no power tilt at all
