Several people on various boat forums stated that it was possible to mount a Yamaha 15 spline prop on a 15 spline Mercury. Most said you would need to use Yamaha thrust washer.
Taking a chance, I purchased a Solas SS prop from a man who ran the prop one time but it was the wrong pitch for his engine. The prop came from a 15 spline 2004 Yamaha F90 4 stroke.
I purchased the prop and I installed it on my Mercury 1150 1972 and using the original Mercury thrust and prop nut, it fit perfectly!
The prop I had on the Merc before was a 1978+ Mercury prop.
I would tend to believe that a Merc 15 spline will also fit on any Yamaha 15 spline.
Hopefully this will assist anyone else faced with this situation.
