yamaha 90 vs. honda 90

planing to replace my 94 88spl with 06 yamahaF90 four stroke or 06 honda 90 four stroke.cant decide. which is a better motor? <br />and does anyone know the wieght for the 88spl?<br />~Aloha,sym

Reliability and durability of those 2 motors should be similar, more dependent of maintenance etc. Both are 1.6 liter and of similar weight if I remember right. As far as I've seeen, the Yamaha's been doing slightly better in top end and acceleration. <br />Dealer should also be taken into consideration.

Cant be of much help here. Can comment that the hondas i see appear to be more prone to corrosion than the yamahas. These are salt water boats used daily and not well maintained. If it were my decision i would go with the lighter weight motor. Have an 05 f-115 ( well maintained) and would highly recommend it. regards fred

I don't know if the '06 Honda 90 is EFI, but if it is still carbed the Yammy is the hands down choice of those two.<br /><br />Take a look at the Suzuki DF90, too. Comparable to the others. Availability of quality local service should be a very strong factor.
