I recently got a 1999 Yamaha 90hp 2 stroke. It had a faulty gas guage (I think) and ran iut of gas first time out. Put in gas and now it stalls when idling. I can get it into forward without stalling sometimes. Runs great over 15 RPM. Used red cold start switch to keep it running. Replaced fuel filter, gas/water sep and plugs. Still have the problem! Suggestions please

pull and clean carbs.
sounds like plugged pilot jets or passages

May need to clean tank and lines and install a 10 micron water/fuel separator to keep from happening again

Re: Yamaha 90 stalls

It has a fuel/water filter which I changed. Can the carb pilot jets be done by me? Or is this something only Yamaha dealer can do? Thanks for any help

Re: Yamaha 90 stalls

Simple job to take apart and clean, just pay attention to where the individual parts come from and make sure they get back into the same carb. Some motors have different size jets in the different carbs, so it make a difference which carb goes where.
Probably need a manual to set the linkages and carbs , and will help out with other procedures and settings also.

Would not hurt to check the compression on the motor if you do not know the condition of the cylinders

Thanks for the help. This sounds like it is above my head at this time. I was quite proud just to be able to change the parts described. Fun forum..thanks again!
