Yamaha 9.9 purchase question.

I'm planning to get a 14ft Mod V to get around on the river and elec only lakes. The dealer is packaging this boat with a Tiller 9.9 Yamaha 4 stroke. The longest run up or down the river would probably be 2 miles and the dealer conveys the 9.9 should be adequate.

I have an F150 on my bigger 20ft bay boat and am wondering if the same 9.9 could be easily swapped to a bigger boat as a kicker for trolling or limited HP lakes?
Would I have to purchase a long shaft (20") in order to also use it as a kicker or should the short shaft (15") work if mounted low enough on the transom?

Helpful thoughts appreciated.

Re: Yamaha 9.9 purchase question.

If you go with a long shaft you can mount the motor higher for easier access. You will need a 20 inch transom on your new boat.
If you have a choice go with the 14 with the longest and widest demension. It will tend to get up on the water better with a load and plane easier with one aboard.
