I have a 1999 Yamaha 9.9 outboard on my sailboat. It has remote throttle controls. I am having a serious problem whenever I put it into reverse. When the engine starts to engage in reverse, it starts to "buck" and jump wildly - practically jumping off the transom. There is no problem with shifting into and engaging forward gear. There is no issue when running in neutral with the throttle in either the forward or reverse direction.
Any thoughts suggestions on the problem? I am only just getting started for the season due to other delays, so I can't say whether or not this is a new issue.
