Hey all, looking for some starting suggestions on what may be the issue. Very inopportune time as I was about to take a potential new co-owner on a test drive the following day.
Engine:
How it happened: Was running the motor fine for about 2 hours then stopped for some lunch. Once restarted a rattling noise begin and the engine would die shortly thereafter. Tried to start it with limited success (would start and rattle) then die within 10-15 seconds. I then noticed I had attached the gas hose backwards (great move....) so the engine stopping was likely due to lack of gas, but the rattling? Flipped the hose, gave her a pump, started, rattled, stopped. Then noticed that the gear shifter itself had gone all slack without any resistance in either direction.
Any sugessions as to where I might begin my investigation?
Thanks very much in advance!
Edit: I should mention as I continue reading about the issue, the rattle I describe was very loud and it didn't sound like it was coming from the lower unit. I could be wrong but it sounded like it was happening in the powerhead itself.
